THE DG009 SERIES
Initially released in 2022 during De Guzman & Co.'s infancy years, the DG009 was released as a flagship model made to showcase the Philippines as a tour-de-force in the microbrand scene. With the brand's ethos of value-proposition, the DG009 stays true to its spirit.
Improved through continuous feedback, the latest release builds and improves upon this ethos through its use of more exotic and higher end materials from its previous release.
THE 'BAKELITE' SAPPHIRE BEZEL
Bakelite is a synthetic plastic-like material historically used as a bezel insert in earlier watches, more famously used in the Rolex GMT Master Ref. No. 6542 and vintage FIfty Fathoms.
Our take on the Bakelite bezel takes on the lens of the modern era of watchmaking. Made with sapphire crystal, the bezel inherently retains the properties of sapphire, scratch resistant and bulit to be used everyday. In addition, we have applied our reformulated luminous paint to the bezel, giving a subtle green glow in dim environments.
A MORE REFINED MOVEMENT
Powered by the HZ6460 GMT Automatic movement, the DG009 ups the scale in the aspect that matters, the movement. Based on the ETA 2836-2 architecture, the HZ6460 inherits its Swiss qualities through its architecture. Beating at 28,800 vph (4Hz or 8 beats per second), this offers a smoother sweeping hand, and a higher tolerance for timekeeping regulation. Regulated between -5 to +10 seconds per day (single position) before leaving the assembly line in Bulacan, the DG009 offers one of the top value-propositions in the Philippine microbrand space.
THE COLORWAYS
DG009 Monochrome (DG009-2026-MON) Grey and Black
DG009 Classic (DG009-2026-CLS) Red and Blue
Two colorways have been chosen for this release, made to showcase the intention of this year's release of the DG009 series. Made to be worn everyday, the Monochrome colorway is the original intention of the series. A dark warm "tropical" black color from 18H to 6H on the bezel denoting night time. A light warm gray color is then used from 6H to 18H to denote daytime. The warm tone continues to the dial, with a warm dark "tropical" black color in matte micro-pebbled finish, inspired by vintage tropical dial watches. The Classic colorway substitutes this with a familiar and classic red and blue colorway combination.
MONOCHROME (DG009-2026-MON)
A NEW BRACELET, DESIGNED WITH INTENTION
This release of the DG009 introduces a new bracelet in the De Guzman & Co. family. A newly designed 7-link bracelet combines both elements of sporty and dressy. Tapering from 20mm to 16mm at the clasp giving an elegant look, the bracelet closes with a hidden butterfly clasp ensuring an almost continuous bracelet look from lug to lug. The center mirror polished five links are braced by two larger brushed finished links giving a solid construction despite the mesh-like appearance. No compromises have been made in the construction, solid milled from 316L stainless steel and adjustable screw links with our same sided screw application, this release refines the solid foundation the DG009 series was built upon.
A NEW LUME FORMULA
After much feedback, we've reformulated our luminous paint. More responsive and up to 50% brighter than our previous formulation. Blended with a subtle cream color, the dial and the bezel give off a subtle aged look without stepping into faux-tina territory unlike our previous formulation.
Used on the dial and bezel's hour markers, this newly reformulated lume ensures visibility and readability in dim and dark conditions.
LEFT HANDED WITH PURPOSE
A small detail, with a huge difference.
Feedback from the previous release showed that though we used a more restraint size of 40mm for the DG009 series, the crown in its more typical position on the right hand side would dig into the wrists of users. This prompted us to swap its place to the left, preventing the watch from digging into the wrists.
